Azureus not working on Ubuntu?

posted 17 June 2006

I recently tried to install Azureus on my Ubuntu (Dapper Drake) and for some weird reason it just didn’t work. The interfaces were corrupted, no sysicon and buttons were not responding.

I went on to search for a solution. I’ve tried the apt-get way, manual install and then finally I decided to use ‘Automatix’ because I found a forum that had similar problem, and Automatix was the solution. So I installed it and it worked.

While watching the installation process, I think I know why Azureus was not working (now get this, I DID NOT try it, it’s just a guess) – the Java package. For those of you who are suffering similar problem, try installing Java Runtime Environment 1.5 by using the copy from Sun.com itself. I have a feeling that it would work because my colleague had no problems and he always installs the JRE from the bin packages downloaded directly from Sun.com.

No harm trying… good luck!
